1) Get in the elevator.

3) Extend both index fingers.
4) Press the button for the floor that you want to go to, and the door close button at the same time, and hold them down for five seconds.
5) Laugh at all of the people that are waiting on an elevator while you go right past them.

This doesn't work on all elevators, but it works on all Otis models, and a few miscellaneous others. On the Otis models, it isn't required to hold the button combination down for five seconds- only that they are pressed simultaneously. I don't know about any others- maybe that's where the five second thing matters.

I've done this at a hotel in houston during a major convention and there was about 10 people going to floors 2-8. I wanted to go on the 10th floor so I did the trick, everyone was just like WTF! When I got off I just giggled.

Another trick someone taught me is that if you pick the wrong floor, pushing (not simultaneously obviously) all of the buttons will clear the list of floors selected, and you just have to hit the one you want. I'm not sure if it works on all brands, or just the one in my office.

The option to force an elevator to go straight to your floor can be turned off by the people that installed it.
OK, I have never being here but this kind of stuff I love. I do it all the time. Here is another one. There is a sort of metal piece at the top of the elevator (where the two doors meet when they close)It looks like a giant on and off switch (again in otis elevators). If the elevator is going up and you want to go down, just get into the elevator and press the floor that you want to go to while you press this switch on and off a few times. It will switch directions....Sweet
I haven't tried it but may cause your elevator to stop working for this.

I was just in San Fransisco, and our hotel elevator was an Otis model. I had my sister stand on the 3rd floor as I went down from the fourth to the 2nd floor. I did the trick, the told her over a cellphone to press the "call-down" button a second after the doors closed.
The trick did not work. I tried it twice with different timing. No go.

On some elevators you can just hold down the button for the floor you want to go and it should bypass all other stops even with no door close button.

This doesn't work. The "close door" button isn't hooked up to anything, it's just to give people something to do while they impatiently wait. Read up on elevators and you'll see this.
Get a stopwatch and try pressing the closed door button. You'll see that the door close on their own time, totally independant of when or how often you pressed the button.

Even in hospitals that DON'T have service elevators, places with an urgent need generally have a override key that overrides anything else the elevator is doing, and brings it to the floor the key is inserted in immediately. (Hospitals that do have a service elevator often don't have this tho, I think.)

Pushing the floor and door close button will NOT bypass calls!!!! If multiple car call buttons are pressed and all go out it is cause the anti nuisance is set on the controller. That is TRUE!!! I have worked on every kind of elevator all the way back to early 1900's.
