How To Make A Wallet Out of Playing Cards:

Duct-tape wallets are out of style, here's how to make a wallet out of playing cards:

1) Find three playing cards you like. Lay them about 1/4 inch apart side-by-side with the faces towards you.

2) Tape the three cards together with clear packing tape.

3) Repeat this process to make another set of three playing cards.

4) Lay the two sets of cards beside each other (so that the cards make a 3 x 2 rectangle) with the faces towards you.

5) Connect the two pieces with clear packing tape.

6) Turn the cards over, and cover any sticky parts with tape (sticky part to sticky part).

7) Turn the cards over again, and fold the cards toward each other, so that the faces are pointing outwards.

8) Tape the two shorts sides together.

9) Three of the four sides should now be joined together. Your wallet is now complete, put your money in, fold it up, and put it in your pocket.

(I added a pocket inside of mine to put gift cards and my ID in, post your variations in the comment section)

They loved them too.
Good job with this idea. It's super cool.

i made mine just now. faced the cards so when its folded, the ace is on one side and the back of the card is on the other.
its a little stiff tho. guess ill sit on it for a while... that sounds so wrong.

good idea. thanks!

Anonymous said...

I lamenated my cardes before attaching them.
The wallet is much more sturdy.

Anonymous said...

I lamenated my cards first.
It makes a better wallet, if you don't mind the stiffnes.

Anonymous said...

Instead of cards, I taped all my ID's together. (just don't tape in the cards you need to swipe)

Anonymous said...

I made mine out of old Magic: The Gathering cards. Don't worry, I didn't use anything rare.

Anonymous said...

i took a face card and cut the face out and it makes a great center part for an id

My wallet is made of a couple of rubber bands. The rubber band from a fishing reel is especially useful. The ladies love it.

Lol I made a spiderman wallet, except I didn't have any packing tape so I had to use clear hockey tape, which made the wallet thicker :( Oh well.

Awesome article! Keep the updates coming!

That is EXACTLY the kind of wallet I've been seeking for years, but have never been able to find! Peace be with you! I can finally check this one off the ol' List of Life Goals!

here's what i did:

I took some pictures from the internet (viewtiful joe pics, if you must know) and printed them out on photo paper. I printed the VJ logo on the back of each. Then I made a wallet out of it. it...is...awesome...i'll post pics on my blog sometime.

Anonymous said...

awesome I dea I would have never thought of it.... I couldn't find my cards so I made it out of duck tape instead... it's better than the one i baught

Anonymous said...

i used normal tape and only taped the sides together and it worked way beter

Anonymous said...

i used normal tape and only taped the sides of the card together, it was soft and awesome

Anonymous said...

I made About 10 of the playing card waletets and sold them for about 3 doallars a pice And it worked. I ended up making 30 doallars

Anonymous said...

This would last about a month in my pocket. I'll stick to leather like the one that cost me $18 and has been in my back pocket for 4 years.

Creative though.

Anonymous said...

I cut a Joker in half and used that as a mini-pocket on the inside middle. Just tape it over a few times or lamenate it with some extra on the sides to make sure the things will fit inside the pocket.

Great idea!

Loughlan said...

Great idea!

If you cheap crappy cards made out of flimsy cardboard, odds are that it will probably only last a month.

However for a little extra, you can get slightly plastic sort of playing card (the expensive type).

That will probably hold its shape a little better and be a little more water resistant.

Anonymous said...

I used 12 Cards (6 on each side) and taped them together a certain way and have 6 slots for pockets to hold git cards, liscens, credit cards, etc. it works really well

Everybody sugggesting to go buy a wallet is missing the point here, which is to express your creativity in any way you can, i.e. a wallet. Great idea, just made mine. Thanx!

Anonymous said...

These are awesome, I just went to Tahoe.....in Nevada........ the same place they keep Vegas.......so the cards are really cheap because of all the casinos. On Friday I took orders for them and have 11 people waiting for Monday, so I can sell them for about $3 a piece, (some people aree paying $5) Thanks for the idea, when I become the famous card wallet salesman, you will be the first person I thank.

Anonymous said...

for those who want a waterproof and slightly more durable option, try those waterproof Uno cards they came out with awhile ago. It'll be fairly stiff, but unique.

now that we all know how to make card wallets, lets move onto the fun how-tos... C4!!!!!!

Anonymous said...

I think you could make it with 4 cards, then you would have a nice foldable seam in the middle. Then, to keep it folded, use velcro with the adhesive on the back.

Tyra said...

Just made my own, and I like it. I 'laminated' the cards with the packaging tape to make them a little more sturdy and used plastic playing cards. I tried the pocket but I didn't put the cards far enough apart so it didn't close correctly. I'm using velcro with the adhesive backing to keep it closed. Awesome, cheap idea and fun to make. Maybe I'll start selling them :)

Anonymous said...

Wow! i didnt make a wallet becasue i actually have a life! but besides that fact they are pretty cool. Ill get my mom to make one for me.

Anonymous said...

if you want to make it sturdier, you could just double up the cards to make them harder to bend and such... besides you already ruined the deck

Anonymous said...

These wallets rule!! Thx for the genius that thought them up...as a matter of fact, This entire SITE rocks!! keep it up!!

Anonymous said...

Thats a pretty cool wallet.

Anonymous said...

I agree, that is a cool wallet.

Anonymous said...

i made mine outta yu-gi-oh cards haha...great idea man!

Anonymous said...

How do i get these to stay shut? u left it under 2 phone books and a huge thing of washer soap and it still doesnt want to stay shut.

Anonymous said...

A bit of Velcro works great as a closure.

Anonymous said...

wow GREAT idea i'm about to make mine

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

I put a pocket inside for the coins using another card.

Anonymous said...

haha you know how cool i am.....i just read all the comments. faily entertaining i have to say. what's my point? i have no life. as for wallets they're over rated. who spends money on something that you put money in? try your shoe it's free or there's always the good old fashion pocket. you know when you wake up with a huge bruise and you're just like...where the fuck did that come from. i think i might attempt this project just cuz...although i'd have to use staples they're the only way to go

Anonymous said...

alternate idea for a pocket, use a game card sleeve. (Game card as in Pokemon, Magic: the whatever, sry ifyour a fan, or Yu-Gi-Oh.

I could never destroy a set of cards. People at school will laugh at me if I use YuGiOh cards and that causes a mess of social interactions (Your nickname will be the dork magician, ten gangsta points if you get the reference). I'd rather use a folder and add some variations. *sigh* do I have to draw my own designs for everything?

Monkeys are delicious, I will pay for my monkey meat out of my new playing card wallet. My monkey meat dealer will be jealous, and I'll be all like "oh thats right son!"

Mine is made up of 6 Black Lotus cards.

Anonymous said...

I have made these card wallets long before i discovered this site and i googled it to see if anyone else figured it out. You can also place two cards together with the short ends facing each other and fold it in half that works too. my wallet is made up of 51 cards and has 37 individual pockets and id slots and i have two pockets for bills with pockets inside the bill pockets its pretty sweet what you can do with those things.

Hey man this is epic man ;). I'm a card magician so you can imagine how great this wallet would be for me :D. I changed my a little bit so on the inside you see the faces and numbers of the cards but the outside you see the backs. I think it looks classier but my opinion. This great man. Thanks! :P

I made one so that when you fold it one way the Queen of Hearts is on the front and the Queen of Clubs is on the back, but if you fold it the other way the King of Clubs is on the front and the King of Hearts is on the back.

I used clear packaging tape for an ID slot, as well as added four pockets (two per card) on the other two, by decapitating the Queen of Hearts. (I have an odd sense of humor.)

Anonymous said...

you know i noticed that alot of people said it was stiff and hard to fold, a simple solution to that might be putting alittle space in between the cards so the cards don't have to over lap. you only need a little bit of space, just thought id mention that and hope it helps

Anonymous said...

I made one out of pokemon cards and really liked it then I realized that I could get a cheap wallet from Vanotticks that allows you to slip cards in and out of the wallet. Now I can personalize the wallet to the mood I'm in, playing cards, pokemon cards, baseball cards, etc. www.vanotticks.com

Anonymous said...

AWESOME. I'm used to folding my wallet right down the middle, so i used four cards and trimmed the end two in half. worked out pretty nicely. also made a bunch of slots, and a ID pocket.

Since 1994 I'm fascinated by the secondary use of playing cards. My collection includes over 4000 (single) cards used for over 250 different purposes other than playing games. The earliest is from the second half of the 15th century and was used to label a bag with legal documents in France. I will add your smart secondary use of playing cards to my database, with your ID, so your idea will be recorded for future generations. Thanks,

I made one about 5 years ago and I still use it. It is falling apart a bit, but it still works! The way I did the card slot was that I took a card from another deck that was the same as the card in the middle inside, and I cut the middle out. Then I covered the whole thing in tape and tapes three sides of it to the middle. It works great!
